On Friday, September 9th, FlourishNow, in partnership with Summit Church, held a job fair in Fort Myers to help match unemployed Floridians with companies in Southwest Florida looking to hire.
A diverse group of more than 350 Floridians representing various education levels and a broad age range were able to speak to more than 40 different employers from several industries including: construction, hospitality, food service, financial services, retail, and more.
Lisa Davidson of Coastal Staffing reported that her company had the opportunity to interview more than 60 applicants during the 6-hour job fair. She also applauded FlourishNow saying, “bless you for your efforts to help raise the community.”
Another participating employer, Culver’s, scheduled more than 38 interviews for a number of open positions ranging from management to serving staff.
Tarren Bragdon, the Founder and President of FlourishNow, praised the large group of employers for attending the event. “The high attendance at our job fair shows the immediate need of many Southwest Floridians who are qualified for jobs but unable to find work. I applaud the diverse group of more than 40 companies who attended, showing their commitment to helping their neighbors, and providing jobs to those who need them most,” said Tarren Bragdon.
“This job fair is proof of our ability to pair those in need with people who can help them. A steady job enables people to reach their full God-given potential, and we’re proud to help unemployed Floridians find that life-changing job.”
Building on the success of the job fair, FlourishNow also announced that it will be hosting job training events, called “job clubs,” to help job-seekers learn valuable skills to improve their chances of finding work. Classes will focus on foundational skills like job seeking strategies, resume writing, and interviewing techniques, as well as providing job seekers with accountability and support. Job Club meetings will be held at Summit Church’s University Campus each Friday from 12:00pm to 1:15pm. The first job club met Friday, September 16th. Interested job seekers can sign up online at www.flourish-now.org.
In line with its overall mission to reduce poverty through work and relationships, FlourishNow also resources and supports the work of FlourishNow Families for Children of Southwest Florida.
