Seemingly every day there’s another tragic story about a child who has died or been seriously harmed due to abuse or neglect by a parent or caregiver struggling with addiction. In Florida, the foster care system has seen a dramatic rise in cases dealing with substance abuse.
ABC7 has covered the crisis and the work FlourishNow and Safe Families for Children Southwest Florida are doing to prevent more of these tragic cases.
“We’re the family they just haven’t met yet.” – Megan Rose, Executive Director, Safe Families for Children Southwest Florida
Last night, ABC7 interviewed Megan about the crisis and how Safe Families can help.
Unlike Foster Care, Safe Families is voluntary. Parents can reach out for help without the fear of losing their children. Parents maintain custody and parental rights while a screened and background checked host family cares for their children so parents can get the help they need.
If you’re struggling with addiction and have children who need care, please reach out to us. There is no shame in reaching out for help.
You’re not alone. You do have people who care for you and your children. Safe Families for Children Southwest Florida can be a resource for parents who want to get clean and be the parents their children deserve.
